The SLHF is proud to announce our new ‘historic’ mailing address, thanks to a generous donation from the W. K. and Trudy Helmcamp Family. The Helmcamp Family has a long history in our home town, which began almost 100 years ago when W. K. ‘Boots’ Helmcamp came to Sugar Land as a young boy. Most old timers will remember him as a leader in the banking and insurance business.
In a display of remarkable foresight, Boots Helmcamp claimed Box 1, when it was offered to him as a young man in approximately 1952. Box 1 was customarily reserved for the Post Mistress, she offered it to Boots, and he accepted. The Helmcamps retained Box 1 until 2016, when they offered their historic mailing address to the Sugar Land Heritage Foundation. We are now ready to begin using it.
