Catrin/Catrina Costume Contest Rules

1. Participation in the Costume Contest is by one individual or a pair of contestants. All participants must be 17 years of age or older at time of contest.

2. Any item that presents the possibility of damage to the entrants, their costumes, the audience, or the facility is prohibited. Weapon and/or replicas, fire and liquids are prohibited.

3. Good taste must be used in the creation and presentation of costumes. Gore, graphic violence, nudity, swearing, or other objectionable elements may be grounds for disqualification as determined by the Costume Contest staff. The Dia de Los Muertos Celebration is a family event and we wish to maintain a comfortable atmosphere for all spectators, while honoring the tradition, and roots of Dia de Los Muertos.

4. Any participant may be disqualified from the contest by show or facility management for failure to observe any rules. All decisions made by the show or management are final.

5. All contestants must be registered online by 5:00PM, Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Contestants will check in and be ready as per the event agenda. The check-in time and location will be emailed to all registered participants.

6. Registered contestants who do not present themselves at the check-in tent on time will be dropped from the contest.

7. No dressing facilities will be provided. Please arrive in costume.

8. Entrants are responsible for their own belongings. We are unable to provide a secure area for personal items. Contestants may bring an assistant to help with belongings.

9. Questions about Costume Contest rules and registration may be addressed to sugarlanddiadelosmuertos@gmail.com. Please include “Costume Contest” in the subject line of any emails.

10. If you use spam-blocking software, please adjust your settings to accept the email address so you can receive communication via email.

Dia de Los Muertos costume entries will walk-on stage and pivot as the master of ceremony gives an introduction. The judging emphasis is on the costumes; but makeup, presentation, and creativity will also be considered. All decisions by the judges are final. There will be cash prizes for 1st ($700), 2nd ($500), and 3rd ($300) place.

The Sugar Land 2025 Dia de Los Muertos Celebration at Town Square will hold a Catrin/Catrina Costume Contest. The organizing committee will review all Costume Contest forms submitted. To register for the costume contest, each contestant must complete this online registration form, and an entry introduction, by 5:00PM, Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Registering online does not guarantee contestants a spot in the contestas the number of contestants is limited to the first 20 Contestants because of time constraints. However,registration for the costume contest first comes, first served. After registering online, contestants will receive a confirmation e-mail along with additional Dia de Los Muertos Costume Contest information containing rules, information, and a contest itinerary.
