Sugar Land Hispanic Heritage Dia de los Muertos Exhibit Information and Conditions
This is the seventh year to celebrate Hispanic Heritage in Sugar Land.
- The Exhibit will consist primarily of traditional altars for loved ones buried at the San Isidro Cemetery or another area cemetery. The Family and/or organization will provide all items for the altar(s) for the Dia de los Muertos Exhibit to be displayed at the Sugar Land Heritage Museum, 198 Kempner St., Bldg. B, 2nd floor, Sugar Land, TX. The Exhibit will be available to the public from October 15 through November 9, 2024, from 10am – 5pm. Altars will comprise personal items commemorating the deceased, virtually all items coming from participating families.
- Setup for the Family Altar Exhibit will be from October 10 – 13 (Thursday – Sunday), 2024. The Museum will be open on Sunday (Oct. 13) afternoon for family altar set-up.
- Participating families and/or organizations will be responsible for providing all items for the Altar Exhibits; these items may include personal items commemorating the deceased. The participating families and/or organizations will also be responsible for altar set up and removal.
- SLHM will provide table space for the Altars. All tables will be provided by SLHM and each family and/or organization will have a full table (8 feet) or a half table (4 feet) space for their altar set up.
- No Open Flames allowed, and no items may be attached to museum walls.
- All Altars must be removed by 5 pm on Wednesday November 13th. Families and/or organizations will need to let SLHM know when removal of the display will occur. Families can begin removing the altars after 4PM on November 9 and all altars must be removed by 5PM on November 13th.
- There will be a Dia de los Muertos celebration on October 19, 2024 at Sugar Land Town Square. Agenda to be determined.
- Attached to this form is a Hold Harmless agreement, which MUST be signed and returned with the completed exhibit space reservation form.
- SLHM agrees to provide a sufficiently secure and controlled access environment for the well-being of the Exhibit during its display period. The SLHM and the City of Sugar Land are not responsible for items on the altars. It is recommended not to have any valuable items on display.
